Definitions

Tattooing: The process by which the skin is marked or colored by insertion of nontoxic dyes or pigments into or under the subcutaneous portion of the skin so as to form indelible marks for cosmetic or figurative purposes. (18 AAC 30.740)

Body Piercing: Puncturing the skin of a person by aid of needles or other instruments for the purpose of inserting removable jewelry or other objects through the human body. This includes, but is not limited to, piercing of an ear, lip, tongue, nose or eyebrow. The puncturing the external part of the human earlobe is not included in this definition. (18 AAC 30.740)

Scarification: Processes that involve altering skin texture by cutting the skin and controlling the body’s healing process.

Branding: The process of inducing a pattern of scar tissue by use of a heated material (usually metal) to the skin, making a serious burn, which eventually becomes a scar.

Permanent Cosmetics (Permanent Color Technology): The process by which the skin is marked or colored by insertion of nontoxic dyes or pigments into or under the subcutaneous portion of the skin so as to form indelible marks for cosmetic or figurative purposes. (KS Ch 65, Article 1940-1953)
