When I arrived home, I was particularly excited for Brantley to come home. I put the enchiladas in a pan and placed them in the oven on low heat, before making my way towards the living room. Sitting down on the black, leather sofa, I turned on the TV and anxiously waited. My phone then beeped inside of my jeans pocket, displaying a text from Brantley.

FINALLY landed, be home soon. Love you!

My heart began to race as I re-read his text, because telling him that I’ve actually set my heart on a date and not really discussing it with him, actually made me nervous. I tried to make myself busy around the place, but since Carolyn had already been by this week, there was nothing to clean. I hated that we had a housekeeper that cleaned up after us. Wasn’t I supposed to do the cleaning? But on the other hand – I couldn’t lose Carolyn. Ever. Checking on the enchiladas once more, I heard the garage door open. How in the world?

“Hey babe, I’m home!” Brantley shouted, tossing his bag down on the ground.

“What are you doing home, already? You just texted me saying you had just landed!” I exclaimed, running up to him, “I missed you!” I wrapped my arms around his waist, squeezing him tightly.

“I missed you, too. What’s that delicious smell?”

I smiled, pushing away from him, “I cooked.”

“Liar.”

“Liar? I can cook, I just choose not… okay, my mom made enchiladas. I went over there to tell her the big news.” I walked into the kitchen and pulled the enchiladas out of the oven and began to load them onto a plate. I placed them in front of Brantley, who was waiting patiently for his plate.

“How’d she react?”

“She’s very excited!”

“I’m glad,” Brantley said, before shoving a bite of food into his mouth, “Jeez, these are incredible! Are you not going to eat?”

“Scar and I had a late lunch, really late, actually.” I sat down in the chair next to him, “So…”

“What’s wrong?” Brantley asked concerned, setting down his fork.

“Well, I was thinking…what about Christmas Eve for the wedding date?”

“Really?”

“You don’t like it?”

“Actually, I love it. That gives us a month to plan.”

“Do you think that it’s too soon?”

“Ava, I can’t wait to marry you. So no, I don’t think it’s too soon. Now I’m really excited for Christmas!” He stood up, pulling me with him, “I love you, Ava.”

“I love you, too. So, are we doing this? Christmas Eve?

“Yep, let’s do this!”

A wave of excitement suddenly ran through me. I could not wait to become Mrs. Ava Fisher. Letting Brantley return to his meal, I made my way to the spare bedroom that we made into an office. With only one month to plan, I really needed to get on the ball and find places to hold it. Most people would have booked these venues a year in advance.
