Chapter Eighteen

“Those of you that have stayed behind for Christmas break are in for a treat,” Krauss said to the students of all three schools.

The boys from Bolt’s Academy were dressed in white robes for the occasion, and the girls from Morwood’s dressed in red, while the Harvest girls wore a mixture of colors, usually ones signifying their element.

“Arnold Mafesta, the famous Potions Master,” she said, gesturing to the graying, skinny man at the head table, “will be teaching advanced classes for those of you in second year and above.”

A few first years protested, but were quickly silenced by Krauss’s booming voice.

“Elaine Morganhaman, a famous Telekineticist, will be teaching classes to all years.” She gestured to a thin woman with long, red hair that was as wild as her amber eyes.

“Finally, Mildred Pew, a famous Theriologist will be teaching all years.”

Everyone clapped and Kat smiled. She’d been wanting to learn theriology, so she could communicate with Sebastian. She always wondered what was in her little furball’s mind.

“I would highly recommend taking these classes,” Krauss boomed, her thin lips spreading into a smile. “It is a great opportunity. Now, for the dance.”

Excited chatter filled the hall. Krauss hushed the students. “Festivities will begin at six o’clock sharp, after dinner. I expect everyone to be on their best behavior, from every school.”

Her gaze fell over the Morwood students.

“Have a lovely evening and happy solstice.”

Everyone hurried to leave the hall. “Didn’t take them long to hit it off,” Angie said with annoyance as she watched two Bolt’s boys chatting up some Morwood’s girls. “What? They’re evil.”

“They’re not all evil,” Kat added. “They just have a bad past attached to their school’s name. Some seem really nice.”

Lara leaned in. “They do draw their magick from the darkness.”

“See,” Angie said, annoyed that she had to use Lara to make her point. “They’re evil. That’s it.”

“Anyway,” Kat said, wanting to change the subject. “We should get ready now. When will Jake be here?”

“Dinner.” She flicked her blonde hair over her shoulder. “He’s getting ready at Bolt’s. He’s bringing Doug too.”

Kat’s cheeks went pink. “Oh, who’s he going on a date with?”

Angie grinned. “That’s the best part,” she said, wiggling her eyebrows up and down. “He’s taking you.”

“What?!”

“He asked me to ask you.”

“But you didn’t,” Kat snapped back.

“I told him you said yes.”

“But I didn’t.”

Lara suppressed a smile, and Angie bust out laughing. “Come on, Sissy, you have to kiss a boy at some point in your life.”

Kat rolled her eyes at her best friend who was pouting and making kissing noises. “You’re gross.”

“Maybe,” Angie said, but her grin remained.

“Seriously?” Dana said, as she’d been listening to their conversation. “Sympathizing with enemy?” Dana looked at Kat with disgust then over toward the group of Morwood’s girls who were giggling and drooling over the two Bolt’s boys.

“They’re not the enemy.”

Dana scoffed. “Uh, yes they are! I’m not surprised. I mean what more do you and your family want? More power?” She turned back to her two friends. “She’s probably on their side.
