CHAPTER 19

I t had been days since Kasha spied Leonidas and his detail. They’d been searching for one of their people and unfortunately, she hadn’t been very helpful in finding his whereabouts or the mage with him. She’d wanted to help and felt disappointed when she couldn’t. She found she kind of missed Leonidas’ broody, sexy looks. There was chemistry between them, and it tugged at her every time they were in the same room. She always knew exactly where he was and could feel his eyes tracking her. No matter, she wasn’t sure either of them would or could act on the attraction or whatever it was. Too many variables in her life right now, and well, he was some kind of king. She wondered if there was a queen. If so, where was she?

Kasha couldn’t wait to sit in her tub and enjoy a nice hot bath after a grueling day of sparring with both Terri and Curtis in his rectus form. She discovered muscles she didn’t realize she had until they began to ache. So much for being a quick healer…not quick enough. She needed this relaxing bath. At least she was faster than Terri now. Her response time had damned near tripled since a week ago. Something about this place, but she also had one hell of a teacher.

Terri thought Kasha was still holding back. Some untapped power in her, or so Terri claimed. And until she unleashed it, they couldn’t really be sure what she truly was or could do. Curtis was betting she was a seer mage, Terri was betting she was some kind of hybrid, mage and something else. Something more.

After her workout, she was always starving, and as had become her custom she’d join Terri and everyone else for her meals. As she sat in the roadhouse at the bar, she looked around knowing she was among people who would not be considered human. Kasha didn’t know what she was anymore, but she seemed to be finding a new life for herself. If nothing else, she fit in. Hell, she may not be exactly human, at least earth primary human. She mourned her old life from time to time, especially her parents. Blood or not, that’s who they were to her. But in truth, she’d never truly had many close friends except for Sondra. Her art was everything, and Sondra had been a part of that art. Now with her family all dead, and given what she now knew and what happened at her condo, she could not reach out to Sondra and had to start a different life for herself. Still, she missed her friend. She’d even stopped carrying around her phone.

“Can you turn that up?” she asked Terri. Although she realized most in the bar could probably hear the news anchorman just fine, she couldn’t. Usually the television was on a sports channel, but some sports games had been canceled or rescheduled. Tonight it was on the news.

Never thought we’d
