I’ve sorted something out and it goes like this. If you’re good at what you do, people give you a lot of leeway. Piers is a really good student and a fabulous actor and I’m a good student and a pretty mean artist. So, after a couple of weeks of being together, it’s going OK at school. I thought it would be worse. I’ve heard about kids at some schools being bullied and beaten up for coming out, but it’s not like that at our school. Piers and I have the respect and support of most of our friends and I’m really thankful for that. There will always be kids who give us a hard time, but we keep away from them. I love Piers more and more every day. He’s become all my inspiration for my art and I have sketches of him everywhere. One of his hand, another of his foot. One of him naked and asleep, stretched out long and sleek with the sheet rumpled around him. His shoulders strong, his spine knobbly, leading down to his curved buttocks. His penis. I’ve never drawn a penis before, but there it is, wrinkled in its nest. Resting. Waiting.
He skin is smooth and warm under my hands and I love to stroke him, lick him, put my tongue in his mouth, kiss him for what seems like hours. He loves being touched and I follow the contours of his body with my fingertips as he relaxes back and watches me gain pleasure from the experience.
“I have to tell Dad about us.” I say one night as we lie together. “It’s been too long now to keep the relationship a secret from him any longer.” Piers can hear the apprehension in my voice and looks over. “How will he handle it, do you think?”
“I don’t know. He’s my dad and I should have some idea of how he will react, but I don’t.” I sigh long and deep, dreading the thought of a row with him. “How’d yours take it?”
“He refuses to discuss it.” Piers rubs his face with his hand. “He thinks I only do it to piss him off.”
I hope my dad doesn’t think that. “How many before me?” I ask him. It’s something I’ve got to know, even though it doesn’t really matter.
“Only two,” Piers says, “apart from those parties. One guy at school and my first real love who was my hair dresser. I was about fifteen when we got together and he was twenty three.”
“Oh yeah, did you get free haircuts?” I tease.
Piers laughs. “And the rest.”
“So, what does your mum think about us?” I ask him.
Piers shrugs. “She doesn’t have much choice.”
“Mum wants you to bring her to dinner at our place. Do you think she’ll come?”
He smiles and props his head up on one arm. “I dunno. I’ll ask, if you want.”
“Yes,” I move in close and kiss him long and slow. “I want.”
Later, Piers settles down to sleep next to me. It’s dark in my room and the moon is a sliver outside.
