Chapter Nine

Michael hadn’t wasted any time when he woke to the voice mail from Darren. It had been the last thing he expected after his afternoon surprise of running into Ryan. He wasn’t about to look a gift horse in the mouth though. He wanted Darren just as much as he wanted Ryan.

Thirty minutes after he had a shower and got some coffee into him, Michael pulled in front of Ryan’s house. For weeks he’d wondered if he’d ever see the two men who left him alone with the hotel suite again. He’d filed it away as a foolish hope and had finally begun to get them out of his mind when Ryan strolled back into his life yesterday. Now as he was about to see Darren again he couldn’t help but feel giddy with excitement. As crazy as it seemed, he missed him.

Michael stepped out of the car and took the sidewalk path two steps at a time, quickening his pace with every inch he got closer to seeing Darren again. He rang the bell and waited for the door to open.

“Hi.” Darren greeted him with a smile.

“Surprise!” Michael yelled.

Darren grinned. “It’s hardly a surprise when I am the one who called to invite you over.”

“Yeah, I guess so.”

“Come inside.” Darren opened the door and motioned him inside. “Would you like something to drink?”

“No thanks. Should I sit?”

“Please.” Darren motioned toward the couch. “Wherever you feel comfortable.”

He sat down and waited while Darren sat in the chair across the room. “So…small world, huh?”

“And then some.” Darren smirked.

“I gotta be honest. I’m a little nervous. As it was I was surprised to see Ryan yesterday. Getting a call from you…Well, like I said I’m a little nervous.”

“Don’t be. Unless…you’re not happy to see me.”

Michael shook his head. “Are you crazy? I’ve thought of you two so much in the past month. I had hoped, but I never thought I’d actually run into you again.”

“But you did.” Darren quirked his brow.

“Yeah. I did. Now that you have me here, what are you going to do with me?”

“That seems like a rather foolish question, don’t you think?”

Michael shrugged. “Not really. I followed yours and Ryan’s lead last time.”

“Yeah? From the way things went I would have thought you to be a pro.” Darren shook his head. “Wait. Not a pro. I mean. Well, not like that. Shit. I wasn’t insinuating you were a prostitute or anything like that. I’m sorry. I guess I’m a little nervous, too.”

“It’s okay. That night, it was my first time with a man in a very long time. And my first night with two men, ever,” Michael admitted.

“Well, whether it’s okay or not, my nerves feel frazzled. Are you sure you don’t want a drink?” Darren asked while getting up and heading toward the kitchen.

Michael got up and followed him into the kitchen. “It’s only nine o’clock in the morning, you know.”

Darren set a shot glass down on the kitchen counter and gave him wicked grin. “And…? Sorry, but I seem to do a little better with liquid courage on my side.
