Chapter 15

Later that night, all of my mates, aside from Kane, sat at the dining table with me.

Maddie’s talk with me had done some good. She convinced me that I would feel a lot better if I showered and put on some makeup and a cute outfit.

She was right. I felt more like myself again. I felt so much more confident in the lacy light peach off the shoulder dress with the sweetheart bodice that she had picked out for me after wearing a robe for so many days.

I was pretty sure that Kane must have gotten the hint that I had been avoiding him, so now he was going out of his way to avoid me now, too.

It was all turning into such a childish game, and, frankly, I was over it. If he wanted to keep playing games, he was going to be the only participant. I was done with it.

But I had asked all of my mates besides Kane to join me for dinner, so I was relieved that he hadn’t decided to crash the party (that he hadn’t even known was going to be taking place).

As one of the servants brought our bowls of heaping, colorful salads out to us, I glanced around the table. I didn’t want to have to do this, but… it was time.

I couldn’t wait any longer. The longer I waited, the worse it would be.

“You guys? There’s something I really need to tell you,” I told them.

I was so nervous. How were they going to react?

“What is it, Raven?” Rhys’s eyes darted over to meet mine. Colton set his fork down and then glanced over at me. Aiden’s gaze settled on mine as all three of them waited for me to break the news.

“There’s no easy way for me to say this, but I want you all to know. I want you to hear it from me.” I paused for a moment, swallowing hard. Were they going to be angry? I couldn’t imagine how I would take the news if it was the other way around. I would have been completely heartbroken. “I’m pregnant.”

“I see.” Colton glanced away from me. I might have only been imagining it, but I could have sworn that his gray eyes had glossed over with tears. Seeing how upset he was made my heart hurt.

“Congratulations,” Rhys said, even though I could tell that his smile was forced. I could see the sadness behind his dark blue eyes that were struggling to hold my gaze.

When I glanced over at Aiden, I couldn’t help but notice the red circles that had blossomed on his cheeks. He looked really freaking pissed.

A long, uncomfortable silence hung in the air between us. My eyes flickered between the three of them, hoping that someone would say something, because I was at a loss for words.

This was one of the hardest conversations I had ever had to have.

Finally, Colton’s voice sliced through the silence. “When is the baby due?”

“I don’t know. It could be any day now.
