A medium order of McDonald’s french fries has 380 calories, 19 grams of fat, and 270 milligrams of sodium. When we add 3 tablespoons of Heinz regular bottled ketchup to that order of fries, we can tack on another 60 calories, 480 milligrams of sodium, and some HFCS along with “regular” corn syrup.5 And to think that this was originally meant to be a side of vegetables.

Now consider this: A raw potato weighing the same 117 grams as a medium order of McDonald’s french fries has only 90 calories, about a tenth of a gram of fat, and only 7 milligrams of sodium.
