“It’s done,” Torin says, walking into the dining room the next morning.

“What is?” I ask.

“My guys stole three tons of cocaine from the Volkov Bratva last night.”

I smile and stand, walking to my uncle and clapping him on the shoulder. “Well done, uncle. Good work.” I run a hand across the back of my neck. “How fast do you think they’ll retaliate?”

He shrugs. “Not sure, but I have another opportunity to hit them again next week.” He tilts his head. “Should I take it?”

“Aye, we need to mount the pressure.” I pull my cell phone out of my pocket. “I need to find out if Seamus has had any luck weeding out the rat in our ranks.”

Torin growls softly. “I have my money on Darragh. That piece of shit has been gunning for more power for as long as I can remember.”

I sit back down at the head of the dining table and type a text to him.

Any news on the rat?

I tap my fingers on the table, taking a sip of coffee and watching my phone as it lights up, signaling a text has come back.

Yes. Best to tell you in person. When can we meet?

I glance up, and Torin is watching me. “Anything?” .

“He wants to meet, so hopefully, he has some news.” I down the rest of my coffee, wishing it was whiskey. “Do you want to tag along?”

Torin shakes his head. “Wish I could, but I’ve got to meet with my guys.” Torin is the most authoritative of the clan’s generals and the only family member to take such a position. He runs a group of twenty-five men.

“No worries.” I fire a text back to Seamus.

My office. Callaghan Enterprise HQ. One hour.

“Keep me informed about the hit on the next shipment. Hopefully, we will recover everything the Russians took from us and more.” I pop my knuckles as a text comes through from Seamus.

See you there.

“You got it. When is the next sitdown?”

“Next week. Seamus will send you the details.” I set my empty mug down and stand. “I need to get going.”

Torin walks with me as we both head out of the house. I can sense the tension as if he wants to say something. When we get to the door, he places a hand on my shoulder. “Rourke, what is the endgame with Viktoria Volkov?” He asks, his brows pulling together.

I feel a flicker of irritation pulse through me at my uncle’s question. “Haven’t thought about it much. Why?”

He hardens his jaw, squaring his shoulders. “It may have been hasty, snatching his daughter so fast, as it’s only escalated tensions, and we’re falling behind in the war. Can we use her to get ahead or not?” He asks.

To get ahead.

I’ve been so wrapped up in the pretty Bratva princess that I’ve paid no mind to how I can use her to make Spartak squirm. It was the reason for kidnapping her.

“I’m working on an angle. Seamus is helping.” I clench my jaw, knowing my uncle is one of the best people at identifying bullshit when he hears it.
