Howard left them soon afterwards, once they had worked out, in the dim light under the boat’s canvas cover, which bits of clothing belonged to whom. There was a lot of laughter and a certain amount of bad language as they tried to force their feet into shoes that were the wrong size and eventually gave up on the idea of identifying their own underthings and put on whichever pair came to hand first. Ted noticed that he had ended up with one black sock and one navy blue sock.

They parted on the boat deck, Howard glancing around quickly to check that they were still alone before placing a brief, chaste kiss on Ted’s cheek, then Robert’s.

“Thank you,” he said. His smile was formal and careful, but underneath Ted could see the satisfaction and pleasure. “I had a wonderful time. But you…there is something more between you than just… Than simply…”

It was impossible to tell because of the low light, but Ted would have bet any money that Howard was blushing again. He smiled. It amused him that the man who had so thoroughly enjoyed him sucking his cock not long before could be too shy to refer to the act, even with a euphemism.

But Howard was right. There was more between Robert and Ted than just sex.
