Chapter 4

This particular morning me and Jack were working on a classic car a 1969 firebird. What a dream to work on such a car. A month had gone by since I took my GED and that strange OBE. I don’t know what else to call it.

Mr. Perez our local mailman came in smiling. We had become friends with him. He was such a cool guy; he had a very heavy Puerto Rican accent. About 5’5 light tan complexion skinny jet black hair with a big mustache. He was always full of jokes and actually we learn so much Spanish from him. He spoke lots of Spanglish. Sometimes he would bring us Puerto Rican snacks and drinks.

In his left hand he was carrying an envelope. ”Ahi papi, I could feel, it’s good news unless you’re too busy. I could come back later.” He said sarcastically.

“Oh no señor let me see that por favors” I said in a bad American accent. Instantly both me and Jack had dropped all the tools and rushed over to meet him.

Jack called Vincent in a loud excited voice. ”Get your old ass out here quick.” Vincent burst out of the office.”

I tore open the envelope, everyone was waiting in anticipation. “Well mijo what does it say?” Mr. Perez said while he was trying to look over my shoulder. I took out the papers quickly as possible and unfolded it. A huge smile came across my face, of course by my reaction everyone knew what that meant.

Vincents snatch the paper form me. He read it as fast as possible. “Holy shit! My boy you got a 1590, that's almost perfect.” Vincent said with excitement slapping the paper.

Jack was reaching for the paper, like if it was candy or something. ”Let me see it, let me see it.” Vincent handed him over the paper and gave me a huge hug. ”Congratulations, you did it; you did it, well done.”

Mr. Perez took the paper from Jack. ”Acho nene, that's incredible” Said Mr. Perez.

”Only 16 and already finished high school.” Jack said proudly, I smiled at him.

Vincent’s face was so excited. ”You know what we should celebrate, Jack you should bring some charcoals and Your barbecue set. You know what; you should come to Mr. Perez.” Vincent said dancing around in celebration.

“For food, I'll be there, I'll bring some beer and for you Stevie some Malta. I have to get back to work see you guys later.” Mr. Perez rushed off back to his route.

It was kinda hard to go back to work. All I kept thinking about was whether I should go back to school or not. If there was some type of school, where I can learn to build a real spaceships. Not these bullshit ass rocket ships that are still using combustion as a method of travel. They’re so freaking old. It's like trying to ride a bike to Europe. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Well the Wright Brothers build a plane and there was no aeronautical school at that time.
