Chapter Four

Clay entered the local hardware and feed store on a mission and with a list of the few things they needed once the land purchase for the coming DRMC permanent playground property was finally secured. Inside, he saw that both Zachary Barrett and his best friend Dell Harper were already inside down the aisle with the chains and large locks he wanted to buy and install at the entrance to the land that was almost theirs.

He wished the land had already been secured. The property owners for the land he had his mind set on had already vacated the acreage. They waited only for the closing date and final check to move on with their retirement plans out of state.

Unfortunately, there had been a problem with one of the DRMC holding accounts during the first phase of trying to close on the perfect property. The money deposited in the account for payment had disappeared at a critical time during the closing and they hadn’t acquired the land when they’d planned on it.

Zachary had been livid over the incident and resulting delay. He’d made dire threats to the woman in charge of the account. During his quick rage he threatened to help slap her ass in jail for embezzlement. His comments had gone into the recorded file of the failed closing.

After fighting off a hostile attempt by another prospective local buyer and promising even more money for the same land to retain it, Zachary had scheduled another closing for the coming week. Luckily, the property owners only wanted to sell to them and not the aggressive local buyer.

The club had agreed to pay the sellers a bit over the competitive bid in order to secure the land they wanted. However, the significant delay meant that Clay had to find a private offsite place for the first annual DRMC ménage sex show. And possibly the second one as well.

With the closing coming up, he wanted to be ready to chain off the only entrance to the property. Eventually he’d build a guard shack there and only allow members inside, but for now, he just wanted to keep hunters and explorers off of the newly acquired land. He turned the corner after passing two aisles and found Zachary and Dell in the hardware section.

“There you are,” Zachary said. “Is this the kind of chain you had in mind?” He pointed to a massive chain on a roll with links as thick as his middle finger.

“Perfect.” Clay checked his notes for the length they needed and unwound the heavy, massive amount, measuring it against the length of his arm to determine the yards needed.

He glanced down the row. “We also need a big-ass lock to pull the chain together to deter those wanting to explore our new property.” Carrying the chain like a lasso over his shoulder, Clay headed further down the same aisle to the lock section. Zachary and Dell followed along. Clay couldn’t wait until he could do these mundane things on his own without a chaperone.
