Herman burst into Michael’s office. He grabbed Michael by the lapels of his jacket and forced him to his feet. ‘You bastard!’ he swore through gritted teeth.

He threw a powerful punch and caught Michael square in the face. Michael fell back against the wall. A thousand sparks of light exploded inside his head. He shook it clear, and was getting up when a Size-12 shoe crashed his head against the wall. He slid down and collapsed in a helpless heap. A hand grabbed his neck and squashed it. He fought for breath. When he opened his dazed eyes he came face to face with the business end of a .22 pistol.

‘Take it easy, Herman,’ Michael pleaded in a voice that sounded constricted like it was coming from a deep pit. A cold sweat broke out on his forehead. ‘You don’t wanna do this, man. Calm down. We can talk about this.’

‘Shut up!’ Herman barked. ‘You fucking bastard! I got nothing to talk with you. I want you far away from my sight. You hear?’

Michael nodded his head quickly and swallowed hard, his face panic-stricken.

‘I suggest you take your Chink whore and go someplace far away from here. Far away where I can’t see you.’

He glared at Michael for a long time with a livid expression, his gun pressed tightly against the bones of Michael’s temple. Then he let go of the terror-stricken man and walked out.
