CHAPTER

TWENTY-SEVEN

I have been home from the hospital for six days. Well, that’s not entirely true, I’m at Xavier’s house, not Trudi’s. He put me in the guest room, directly beside his bedroom. All three of my guys refused to let me go back to my aunt’s house when the doctor discharged me. To be honest, they are driving me up the fucking wall. It wouldn’t be so bad if they would give me some space, but they crowd around my bed, waiting on me hand and foot.

At first, I thought it was adorable, but now I just want them to leave. Go to school and let me be alone for a few hours so I can breathe. Unfortunately for me, they have pulled strings with the principal, Mr. Danforth, and they are doing assignments online just like I am.

During my week here at the Knight residence, Trudi has not checked in on me once. No phone calls, no text messages. She didn’t even come to the hospital to make sure I was okay. What a bitch.

Every day, the guys ask me if I remember anything new. I am about ready to stab each of them in throat. If I remembered anything, I would damn sure let them know about it. As it is, I’m beginning to wonder if something is terribly wrong with me. Surely, I should have at least one memory restored by now.

Just my luck, my brain is malfunctioning, and I will probably never get those missing pieces back. God, I’m such a failure. Yeah, I know the amnesia thing isn’t my fault, but I can’t help but feel like a screw up that deserves to be thrown in the garbage like yesterday’s trash.

Submitting the last assignment, I shut down the laptop and climb out of bed. My ribs are still sore, and it hurts to bend down, but other than that I think they are healing just fine. The bruising is starting to turn a yellowish green in places, and the bump on the side of my head is smaller.

The house is eerily quiet when I step out into the hallway. I immediately go on high alert because those three have not left me unattended since I have been here. It makes me wonder where they went, and what the hell they are doing.

Not wanting to make any noise, I tiptoe down the stairs, listening for any signs that one of them is here. The only thing I’m met with is silence. Even Skippy is unusually quiet today. I wonder where the sweet little dog is.

As I enter the living room, I find it empty. As is the kitchen and dining room. “Hello, is anyone home?” Several seconds pass before I yell, thinking they’re probably in the office and can’t hear me. “Hello?”

I wait for a response, but one never comes, so I venture back into the kitchen and open the refrigerator. Since I’m down here, I may as well make myself something for lunch. Apparently, my stomach feels the need to make an announcement because it rumbles extra loudly.
