Chapter Sixteen

Troy

I was having the best Thanksgiving of my life. Sitting at the table, surrounded by my brothers, Marisol, Lexi, Emme, and the kids, all I could do was grin like a wolf with a full belly, even though my brothers were having fun at my expense.

“Listen to this one,” Jax smirked in my direction. “A kid comes up to his mother and says, ‘Mommy, when I grow up, I wanna be a helicopter pilot.’ His mother looks down at him with pity and says. ‘Sorry, buddy, you can either grow up or be a pilot. But you can’t do both.’”

Everybody burst into laughter, me included.

“I mean, really,” Jax went on. “if God had wanted Troy to fly, he would’ve given him hollow bones and not a hollow head.”

“Hey!” I protested, but everyone was having a blast. Sol was giggling and Jax was on a roll.

“Joram,” he said. “What’s the difference between a duck and Uncle Troy?”

Joram scratched his head. “I don’t know.”

“A duck can fly,” Jax said, and everybody laughed some more.

“Here’s a new one, dedicated to the adult gorillas around this table,” I ventured in my own defense. “If morons could fly, this place would be an airport just about now.”

The teasing went on while we feasted on the magnificent spread that Max had spearheaded. Adding Marisol to that equation, having her sitting next to me, pushed my emotions to a whole new level.

After an afternoon of intense lovemaking, Marisol looked as satiated as I felt. It wasn’t my imagination. A new glow added brilliance to her caramel eyes. Every time she looked at me, I got to bask in her radiance.

I’d finally gotten a chance at my redo.

And what a redo it’d been.

Our bodies fit together like tongue and groove. The pleasure I found in her was mind-blowing. My cheeks officially ached from smiling. When was the last time that had happened?

I couldn’t remember.

Marisol offered me a steaming bowl. “Would you like more mashed potatoes?”

“Hell, yeah.” I accepted the bowl with a wink, making sure that she understood that the mashed potatoes were good, but what I really craved was more of her.

The small, crooked smile that flitted on her lips warmed me from head to toe. I piled on the mashed potatoes as snippets of our afternoon together flashed in my mind. Sol whimpering her sexy moans. Sol coming. Sol bent over my lap, her lovely mouth taking me to paradise—

“Pass me the damn mashed potatoes and stop that.” Max snatched the bowl from my hands. “Conduct unbecoming.”

I drew back and stared at him. “What is?”

“Drooling.” Max grabbed the napkin from his lap and pressed it on my lips, pretending to wipe my mouth.

I batted his hand away, much to the laughter of the entire table. “I’m not…” I met Marisol’s amused gaze, paused, and then shook my head at Max. “Dammit, bullet-sponge, you’re right. I am drooling.” I lifted my napkin and made a show of wiping my lips. “Sorry, people. My bad.”

More chuckling filled the room.
