“It was the Lord and Lee Tidwell,” Ben answered.
“Well glory to God,” Ned shouted.
Steve was trying hard not to laugh at Ned. He asked him if he could feel the draft from the wind tonight. Ned looked puzzled at his question and then, as if struck by lightning, he looked down and realized he wasn't dressed.
“Oh my!” he called out, and ran back to the house. On his way, he shouted, “I'll be right back; don't rest until you tell me what happened.”
Steve and Ben laughed as they watched him enter the house to retrieve his clothes. They waited outside the door of the farmhouse until Ned returned. The three of them shared the conversation on the hillside, and of course the sighting of Lee Tidwell.
Though the three of them were overjoyed at the peace Lee found, there was still a more important matter at hand. That was the instructions of the Lord.
Since He instructed them to relocate to the ranch, and mentioned a sense of urgency, they felt they should start making plans.
Originally, Ned Phillips intended to stay at his farm for a while after the group left. He believed they would be moving on to another town and picking up where they left off. With this new information, he changed his plans.
When the group left, he would follow with his family. Ned placed all his possessions at the disposal of Steve and Ben.
Ned owned considerable property, but the only things that the group needed now was his pickup truck and an older two and a half ton farm truck.
Both of these vehicles were needed for transporting people and supplies. Though most of the people possessed automobiles, without fuel to run them they were virtually useless. The job of transporting at least six hundred people across the state line to the ranch was a monumental undertaking.
