Special Agent Ritter met Hank and Lucy as they arrived at Sheriff Tate’s office as requested.

“So what do you have for us, Sheriff?” Maples asked.

When Tate saw that there were three of them, he could hardly believe his luck. He didn’t know the other woman, who introduced herself as Special Agent Ritter. He asked all three to have a seat.

Tate started to explain the plan for next week to take out the drug runners at a sting. Even though there were several other law enforcement groups working together, the help of the USAIS would make the effort foolproof.

“We’ve just received information that the drugs and the money exchange will take place on at an old cabin on Smoke Mountain Road. Our task force will be in and around the cabin a couple hours before, and we will have them in our crossfire if they decide to try and escape. We thought you might like to be in on it,” Tate said to Hank.

“Glad you’re thinking of us,” Hank said mockingly.

“I’m not real comfortable with a newspaper reporter being there,” Tate said, faking concern.

“No worries,” Hank said. “She’ll be with us. We have an agreement everything is off the record for now.”

“Great,” Tate said, “but if something leaks out, it’s on you.”

“I don’t leak, Sheriff,” Lacy huffed.

Tate offered them a drink, but the trio declined and said they had to get going and promptly did so.
