Chapter 15

I was not sure if the fact that I had on a security guard uniform and I was also with a student that school security knew, that no one stopped us. Lillian and Lexie followed my instruction to just walk straight without saying anything to anybody, and we actually got to the principal’s office without anyone stopping us. I had hidden my gun in the car because I knew better than to enter the school armed, then school security would definitely have stopped me and messed up my plan.

“Grey, stop. You can’t just walk in,” Lillian said as she saw me heading to the principal’s door.

I held on to Lexie’s hand and I knocked then opened the door and walked in. The principal was sitting with someone I assumed was a teacher.

“Can I help you?” she asked clearly surprised that the girl she suspended was standing in her office with her mother and this stranger.

“Good afternoon, Mrs. Parcel,” I greeted using the name that Lexie had supplied in the car.

“Mrs. Codwell, I thought we already met and…”

“But you didn’t meet with me,” I said interrupting her.

“And who are you?”

“My name is Grey Porter, and I am Lexie’s godmother. I just learned that she was suspended for fighting and I would like to know from your investigation, what caused the fight to start.”

I saw her look nervously at the woman who had sit across from her.

“Why don’t you all have a seat,” she indicated the line of chairs in front of her desk.

“That’s OK. We will stand because the last meeting you had where Lexie was suspended only took ten minutes, so I expect that you already had all the information and will just brief us on it.”

“Did Lexie tell you what the fight was about?” she asked.

“I just want to see if what she told me matches up with what you have, because both of these girls are suspended for fighting and that’s not what they are at school to do,” I said and I saw her swallow because I knew the other girl was not suspended.

“Well...only Lexie was suspended because she initiated the fight. Miss Porter, this is not a first incident for Lexie. I am sure her mother has briefed you on all the times we have been down this road.”

“That is why I am here. I don’t want to hear from her. I want to hear from the head of the school, but now it sounds like you are saying that my Lexie has mental problems…”

“Miss Porter! I never said that.”

“But if this Darcy girl was sitting in her seat minding her own business and Lexie just jumped out of her seat and attacked her, then it sounds like that’s what you are saying.”

“No...she didn’t...it didn’t happen like that.”

“Then how did it happen, Mrs. Parcel?” I asked and she looked to the teacher who had no contribution to make.

“I spoke with Darcy and she said that another child did something to Lexie and she attacked her.”

“Did you speak to that child who did something to her?”

“No.
