Ben pulled the car into his spot in the parking lot. “See you later?” he asked.

“Thanks, Ben. See you after work.”

“Don’t forget about my meeting with my cousins’ kids. Maybe I’ll make it back before quitting time, but I can’t be certain.”

“Don’t worry about it; I’ll take a bus home. You can call me when you want me to come to your place.”

“It’s a deal.”

Once they were out of the car, Hank headed toward one entrance, Ben to the other.

When Ben opened the door to the outer office, he immediately knew something was wrong. Jennie’s face was drained of color.

“Jennie, what is it? What happened?”

She sobbed and immediately berated herself. “Now that sort of thing doesn’t help at all, does it?”

“What is it, Jennie?”

Instead of answering she picked up a business-size envelope and handed it to him.

“Better not touch what’s inside,” she said. “In case there are fingerprints. Unfortunately, I already touched it before I knew what it was. And I should have left it out of the envelope. I wasn’t thinking.”

He took it, wrapped a tissue around his index finger and thumb and pulled out a single sheet of paper. Careful not to touch it, he took a pencil and unfolded it.
