The light over the bluffs is a stunning fiery orange mixed with hues of purple and pink. I’m back in my sundress, a shawl over my bare shoulders. Milo is in dark jeans, brown cowboy boots and a beige linen shirt. The choker I admired yesterday is around his strong throat. He’s carrying the picnic basket I filled with goodies after our ride. Since breakfast was a big meal and he needs to get on the road, I thought a late lunch-hybrid-supper would be best. Besides, the view of the light as the sun sets over the land from the bluffs is almost as magical as the sunrise.

“Did your mother make that necklace?” I point to his neck.

“Yes. She gives me pieces regularly. It honors her when I wear them, so I do.”

“That’s really sweet.”

He tips his head to the side. His hair is back in a perfect French braid.

“Who braids your hair?” I shoot for sounding light and aloof, but it comes out strained because it drives me crazy to think about someone else braiding his hair, having their fingers in his gorgeous mane. It feels personal.

Intimate.

His lips twitch and he grins. “Are you asking because you are curious or jealous, adinidiin?”

I stop and try to tug my hand away as we trek up the incline I’ve traversed many times in my lifetime.

“Curious!” I lie.

He knows I’m lying. I can tell by the huge smile that suddenly blinds me with its awesome light.

“This style braid from the top of my head is not one I can do on my own.”

“French braid is what it’s called,” I state with a haughtiness that even sounds know-it-all to me.

“I asked Aiyana to do it. Though when it’s braided low, that is my own hand.”

“Oh.”

“Yes, oh.” He smirks. “I will love for you to tend to my hair when you come to live at the cabin with me.”

I pull my hand away so fast it’s as if I was torn from him. “Excuse me?” I narrow my gaze.

“Do you not wish to share a home?”

I slap the side of my thigh.

“Oh, I don’t know. How’s about we date for a while first? Get to know each other, and besides, why would I automatically move into your home? I have a home, too, you know.”

“If that is as you wish, we can discuss it. Though yours is an apartment and rather small for a couple and a growing family.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. You skipped right over moving in, marriage, and now you’re talking about having children?”

He smiles and grabs my hand and we keep walking. “You want children, yes?”

“Sure. Yeah. I mean, when the time is right with the right man...”

“Am I not the right man?” He frowns and his entire expression flits from gentle giant to stoic warrior about ready to fight a battle he intends to win.

“Uh, I mean, maybe. Probably. Why are you moving so fast?” My throat goes dry and I realize I really need that bottle of wine I stole from Toko’s stash.
