Waking up in the morning with Chloe curled up on my chest is a privilege. One I've missed deeply. She's so careful about her personal space and how she appears when she's awake and among others. In her sleep, though, when she feels safe, that guard comes down and she lets herself stretch out and uses me as her mattress.

It's a compliment and a matter of pride to me.

I don't take it for granted. Her feet are on my left hip, her body curled into an almost feline ball with her head tucked under my chin. I trail my fingertips over her back, my arms still around her, keeping her close. I can't stop touching her. It's like if I stop, I'll wake up and she won't really be here. The last twenty four hours will have never happened.

I can't go back to not touching her again. No way I'm putting myself back in that friends only box. Not unless she says I have to.

I can't think about that.

I bury my nose in her hair, inhaling the apple scent of her shampoo. I'm not ashamed to admit that when we split, I bought a bottle of it and washed my pillow cases in it. It helped me sleep without her.

For the most part.

Chloe sighs softly, stretching and then wrapping her arms around my middle. I grin and keep tickling my fingers over her spine so she squirms into me. "Morning, sweet tart."

She whines quietly. "You wore me out," she says sleepily.

Chuckling, I kiss the top of her head. "Thank you. It was my pleasure. Clearly."

She giggles, biting my chest lightly and I groan. She looks up at me finally, her green eyes worried. "I didn't come over for this..."

My heart seizes in my chest but I stay calm, keep rubbing her back. "You didn't come for a naked slumber party?" I ask her, smirking, even though I want to cry.

Chloe turns around, straddling my hips and takes my face in her hands, leaning up to kiss me. I cup her neck, taking over and pulling her farther up my body, holding her closer. All I want is to freeze this moment. Just keep her with me.

But I know I can't.

When I break the kiss, we're both breathing heavier. Her eyes are on mine, her face flushed. "I didn't come for the naked slumber party," she says. "I don't regret it. But I don't know what it means. I have feelings for you." She swallows hard. "And for Raif."

She looks tortured. I swallow hard, stuffing my own feelings down deep. I can feel crappy after she leaves. She didn't make me any promises. I'm not gonna be the reason she feels bad.

I cup her jaw and hold her eyes. "Breathe, love. It's okay. As long as you plan on telling him about this."

She nods immediately. "I will, yes." She licks her lips. "I'm sorr-"

I press my fingers to her lips, cutting her off.

"Hush, sweet tart. You don't owe me any apologies. You listen to me now, okay?" I wait for her to nod her agreement then continue.
