Oakleigh

It’s early morning now, the sun has just started to creep up above the mountain crests. Cason made love to me two more times throughout the night, the second time rougher and harder than the first, and the third we were only half awake and it was lazy and sweet. The entire night was spent kissing and touching, learning each other’s bodies as we learned who we were. I will remember this night for the rest of my life and look back on it frequently. But I don’t want to ruin it with an awkward morning as Cason tries to get me out of his bed and out of his life. I’m going to spare us both.

I kiss his forehead, then sneak out of bed. He’s sound asleep as I dress in the clothes I wore to work the night before. Like the coward I am I’m running away like I always do, running away for a better life. At least that’s what I keep telling myself as I keep making choices that lead me further and further away from him, the only man who’s ever shown me kindness.

I tiptoe through the house and walk out the front door. It takes me about thirty minutes to get back to the front gate and when I do two men are standing there wearing leather vests that look similar to Cason’s. They give me a weird look as I approach. These were the same men that were standing here the night before, but I don’t know if they recognize me. “I came in with bullet.” I say.

One of them eyes me. “I remember. What are you doing here? Why aren’t you with the Prez?”

“Oh, I had I had to leave early, and I didn’t want to wake him. He works so hard you know.”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea we should call him.”

“No, don’t do that. It’ll be fine, I promise. Just let me out and I’ll be on my way.”

They look at each other and I know they’re trying to decide what their best move is here because if they do something wrong it’ll be their asses.

I can’t think about that, I have to think about what’s best for me. I put my best sexy girl face forward and do what I never do, I flirt, shamelessly. God, I’m terrible at flirting. “Please, come on it’ll be a secret between us. You don’t have to tell anybody what happened just pretend I was never here.”

They shrug their shoulders and one of them pushes a button opening the gate.

“Thanks boys have a good day.” I walk off while regretting every step I take. I’m pretty sure I just made the biggest mistake of my life, but it’s too late now, I’ve already made it. Instead of turning back like I want to, I keep walking, putting one foot in front of the other until I’ve walked at least a mile down the road. I don’t know maybe more, maybe less. All of a sudden, I hear the familiar chimes of a police cruiser behind me.
