Chapter 15

I wake to the scent of coffee. Sweet currents of cool air caress my naked body.

My lower legs are covered by soft sheets, tangled around me. I can’t remember any of my dreams and I feel like I’ve slept for a long time.

I’m alone.

Stretching tentatively, I feel sort of ... deliciously sore. I open my eyes.

It’s bright daylight, softened by the wave of white, gauzy curtains that sway in a gentle breeze. Doors to a balcony are open just a little. The sky is blue and the high haze of clouds makes me think it’s another scorching day out there. But not in here. In my haven, it’s the perfect temperature.

It takes me a few seconds to remember where I am.

Dallas.

A hotel.

With the two hot cowboys who picked me up in their red convertible Mustang.

Wow.

It all comes flooding back to me. I fled from Diesel, my car broke down, I got a lift … and then I proceeded to get down and dirty with my all-American saviors like nobody’s business.

I climb off the bed—carefully—and wrap the sheet around me. Tentatively, I peer into the main room to see who’s there. But I can’t see anyone.

So I slowly push the door further open.

I approach the scene almost shyly. My bare feet pad across the plush carpet without sound. I’ve taken the wildest ride of my life with the two men I’m about to face and they are, in fact, complete strangers to me. I know almost nothing about them except that
