In a period of six months, along with a constant changing of blown light bulbs, I had to replace my central air system and four of five damper motors in the ductwork that direct airflow. Installers reviewed the situation for a day and all they could come up with was a “power surge”.

One day my stepson Brian and I went for a drive. v\Then we returned home, I got out of the car first and put my aluminum travel mug on the top of his car as I waited for him to collect his things.

As soon as I put the cup on the roof, it began to shake as if it were in an earthquake. I knew this was weird and listened for an engine fan which is in some cars and runs for a few minutes after the engine is turned off. There was none. The cup was rattling around all on its own. I knew if I told Brian to stand up and see it, it would break the spell and stop. I stood there for one or two minutes, wishing he’d hurry up and worried I’d be the only one to see it. Finally, he stood up and looked at the jiggling cup, then at me and back at the cup again. It showed no signs of slowing down or stopping: I again asked him if he was sure his engine didn’t have some type of cooling fan, anything to explain the vibration of the cup. He assured me there was nothing in his car making this happen. I picked the cup up and sat it back down. Nothing. We had just been talking about NDEs and the In Between during our drive, so I chalked it up to that. We went inside and I poured my remaining coffee, now cooled down, into a ceramic cup and put it in the microwave for the usual thirty seconds. During this time, Brian and I talked about the weirdness of the dancing cup. When the microwave oven beeped the coffee’s readiness 30 seconds later, I reached inside. As soon as I touched the mug, the coffee exploded in all directions. It wasn’t hotter than you’d expect after 30 seconds so I knew I didn’t absentmindedly put it in for four or five minutes (to reach an explosive temperature ). The microwave was completely fried and I had to replace it.

A few weeks later, I walked into five different stores on five consecutive days and their cash registers shut down every time. The next week, I was visiting my mother in North Carolina and the same thing happened with the cash register in a hardware store. I asked when it had stopped working and it was right when I walked in. When I returned to my mother ‘s home, I told her about all of these after-effects and about the In Between in general. As I spoke, suddenly a large transformer outside her condo blew; it was a loud “boom”. I asked her how often this happened and she said, “never”.
