They stopped for dinner in Flagstaff at one of the truck stops Raney had particularly liked on the trip coming west. Martina wanted to look for him.

“Raney liked this one a lot,” said Martina. “I want to stop and see if he’s here.”

“Sure. Good thought,” said Brad. “Let’s do it.”

While they had dinner in the restaurant, Lance pulled up Raney’s file to see if there was a mention of where he fenced the truck cabs.

“Only once does it say where they found one of the stolen cabs,” said Lance.

Brad stuffed another bite of cherry pie into his mouth. “Where does he take them?”

“Houston.”

“That might have been where he got in with me,” said Martina. “I can’t recall where it was, but it might have been in Texas.”

“Good,” said Brad. “We’re making progress. Now we need the name of the place that takes the cabs and resells them.”

“No mention of that in the file,” said Lance. “That would be too much of a fuckin gift, wouldn’t it?”

“If the cops knew who was fencing the cabs, they would’ve busted them by now,” said Brad. “That information would be no good to us now. Raney would have found another fence.”

“Let’s get as far as we can tonight,” said Martina, “and we’ll hit Houston tomorrow.”

“I can help with the driving,” offered Brad.

“I might let you drive, McAvoy. I’ll think about it.”
