Rhychard sat cross-legged on his Thinking Rock, facing out at Manatee Creek, the Guardian Sword across his lap. The evening sun caressed his face, the wind off the creek tugging the loose strands of his long, dark hair. He sat with his eyes closed, concentrating on his breathing as he prepared himself to merge with the sword once more.

After the Brintohar, Rhychard spent a few days with Kendalais teaching Rhychard to reach into the sword to communicate with the other Warriors. As he envisioned the other twelve, they took turns sharing their stories and advice, teaching him the histories of the Warriors of the Way as well as the Land Under. Most of it was generic in scope but had given him a broad perspective. Sadly, since the battle of Feather Lakes, Rhychard had not had a chance to converse with the other Warriors again due to the chaos that became his life since. However, with everything going on with Renny and the appearance of the gnomes, Rhychard felt it was time to change that.

Placing one hand on the sword’s grip, Rhychard envisioned a grassy meadow, the sun high overhead, but not hot as a gentle breeze blew through and birds flitted in the air. In the distance, cattails rustled along a river’s edge as ducks cleaned themselves on the bank. With his mind’s eye, Rhychard glanced around, impressed with his imagination.

“You do know this is quite unnecessary,” a stiff voice said from behind Rhychard.

Turning, he saw Respin, the first elf to enter the Guardian Sword during the Brintohar, giving Rhychard his strength for the fight against Mephalus. He wore the traditional black trousers and cream-colored tunic, his long, blond hair flowing freely down his back. Rhychard shrugged. “This makes it feel less weird for me.”

The elf arched a slanted eyebrow but chose to say nothing about Rhychard’s emotional sentiment. Rhychard knew the other Warrior did not approve. “What brings you inside the sword,” the elf asked.

Rhychard glanced out at the river he created, taking solace in the normal surroundings if not the circumstances. “Apparently, I have powers I didn’t know I had.” He then explained how Renny was brought back to life rather than crossing over into her next journey, sharing the arrival of the gnomes who claimed Renny was not the Warrior’s Blade. “Pux says that it was my love that brought her back and that the Brintohar opened up even more magic within me. Is this true?”

Respin’s face remained stoic in his expression as he stared at Rhychard. “All the faerie real has some sort of magical ability, each race with their own unique power, even the Warriors of the Way, although ours is mostly centered upon the skills needed for battle. With you being human, I am unsure what powers may have been within you that were brought out.”

Rhychard rolled his eyes. “Always with the human insult.”

Respin arched an eyebrow. “I assure you, I meant no slur to you or your race. I am merely stating a fact.
