Charles was being rushed to the hospital.

He was being helped along by the fake-nosed blondie, and she was simultaneously carrying a baby girl while trying to show “one side only” of her face to a group of people who were taking her photo—or else, the shape of the implant in her nose might turn visible.

“Great!” Nadya replied to her friend over her cell phone in the meanwhile. “I’m not interested in any of my old flames too. They’re old already, and burned out. I need new things, and that includes people.”

She was perched on a low stool in a knee-skimming black dress and don’t-mess-with-me pointy leopard-print heels, dark glossy hair falling over one eye. The 20-something women at the salon were practically drinking her in. She barely noticed them; instead, she only had eyes for the bright-eyed young man seated across from her, leaning in seductively.

All she was concerned with was getting her hair and nails done.
