Jook is rice that has been boiled in a quantity of water (to the rice proportion) until it has broken down. Preference depends on the thickness and amount of rice disintegration. Jook is commonly served as a side dish alongside more flavored dishes, but it can also be made into a main dish by mixing meat and other things directly into the water and rice.

1/2 cup white rice, uncooked

4 cups water

Taste with salt and white pepper (optional)
