Chapter 14

Roark~

Mondays were the worst for SIA because I liked the beginning of my weeks heavier than the end of them. I had no problem working a sixteen-hour day on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. However, come Thursday and Friday, I was ready for the weekend. At least fifty times a week, someone was asking me to skirt or break the law, and while I agreed that our government was a corrupt one, I wasn’t going to prison for anyone. While I had no problem researching loopholes or adjusting a few things, I refused to pass off someone’s pet as their dependent or whatever else crazy shit people asked of me.

There was also the fact that I already missed Gypsy. It’d been so hard to crawl out of bed this morning, her body feeling too perfect lying next to me. Never mind that last night had changed me forever, but having Gypsy wrapped up in my arms had felt like she’d been living there for as long as I could remember. Yeah, lots of guys would say that the phenomenal sex was fucking with me, but she’d been fucking with my mind way before she had let me into her bed. The sex was just a bonus, and what a fucking bonus it was. I’d never had a woman give herself so freely, and my dick was mad at me for coming into work this morning. It wanted to be back inside Gypsy’s perfect body, and preferably without a condom this time. We were definitely going to have to have the ‘protection talk’, and once we did, I was going to show her exactly what all I was capable of. If she thought that last night was full of shame and debauchery, then she was in for a huge surprise.

I let out a puff of smoke as my phone rang, hoping that it was Gypsy, but knowing that it probably wasn’t. After all, she did have a shop to run, and Rocky didn’t start her shift until after her classes. However, when I saw that it was Junie, I couldn’t be disappointed.

“Hey, Junie Bug,” I greeted as soon as I picked up.

“Just checking on you,” she replied like a mother hen. In fact, she was worse than Mom was.

“I’m good.”

“How are things with Gypsy?” she asked hesitantly. “Am I going to have to name my firstborn after you, or did things go okay?”

“First off, you’re naming your firstborn after me, no matter what,” I told her. “I’ve decided that it’s the least that you two could do for me.”

“For what?” she chuckled.

“For finally allowing you two to date,” I argued. “Second, you were right.”

“I’m sorry, come again?” she asked just to be a jerk.

“She’s very nice,” I conceded. “And while selling kindness isn’t the best business decision on the planet, she sells it well.”

“My, my, my-”

“Don’t,” I said, cutting her off. “Take your wins and be gracious about it.”

“Holy shit,” she exclaimed. “You like her.”

I inhaled another hit of poison. “We spent last night together,” I confessed.
