Continue this two-part process until ten links have been filled, then finish the splice on the eleventh and twelfth links. To finish, remove the tape from the strand pair ends. Separate the two strands of each pair, pass one through a link (either the eleventh or the twelfth, as appropriate) and the other around the side of the same link. Then seize the two strands together closely, as shown, to prevent movement of the rope over the chain. Seal the strands by melting them with a match or hot knife. Applying a coat of liquid rope sealer would be a plus. As a final touch, serve the entire splice tightly with small stuff (see chapter 14) to further ensure that the strands do not chafe.
