Chapter Twenty-Two

GAbriel’s lips tingled.

He walked out of the kitchen, out of the Institute, into his car, and drove for hours.

No particular place in mind, but he needed to be away. His desire kept telling him to go back, to finish what they started.

After hours on the road, battling his demons and his urge to go back to his temptress, he arrived in Abu Simbel.

It was morning.

He stretched his aching body and made his way through the tunnels and into the Oracle’s temple.

The bedroom the Oracle had conjured was still there.

Gabriel laid down on the bed and waited for the tiredness to take over.

Kyra’s kisses and her energy kept him awake. He could still feel her hands on his hair, her kisses on his neck, the scrape of her teeth biting his lip.

The need for her consumed his every cell.

Gabriel fell into an uneasy sleep, her eyes haunted him.

When he woke up, he sat up and felt disoriented for a second. His memory of the night before came back. His heart raced as he thought of Kyra.

“You will need to learn to control the desire, or it’ll consume you, child.” The Oracle’s voice made him jump.

“By the gods, do you want to give me a heart attack? When did you come back? Who drove you here?” he asked.

“Join me for supper, son of Horus. There are more ways to travel than by car,” she said and walked away from the room.

Gabriel got up. His heart about to come out of his chest; he took deep breaths.

The Oracle waited in a dining area. Food served on the table.

They ate in silence.

His mind kept going back to Kyra.

“She’s special,” the Oracle said as she leaned back in the chair.

Her white eyes penetrated his soul.

“I can feel it,” Gabriel said, the need for her closing his throat.

“She will need you, son of Horus.” The Oracle smiled.

“Why do you call me that? You don’t call others by their Links,” he asked. She had always used this name for him.

“Because it sounds lovely.” The Oracle laughed, then her eyes turned serious. “She will need you until the end. She’s a daughter of Bast.”

He froze and stared at her.

“But you already suspected it.” She added and pointed at his chest.

“I didn’t.” He placed his hand above his tattoo.

“Not consciously, but you did. Kyra will need to train fast. Something is coming which we’re not prepared for. Something that will change everything,” she said and looked away.

“Why must you speak in riddles?” He wanted to shake her when she did this, which was most of the time.

“It’s not in riddles I speak. It’s truths which are hard to assimilate if said straight.”

“I can’t defend her if I’m not sure what I’m up against.” The dream of her getting stabbed came back to mind.

“He will try to steal her from you. She’s not his to take, but he’ll try. She’s yours, and you’re hers. The blood of family will never be stronger than a consort bond.” She looked at him and then down.
