La Fine della Guerra – The end of the war

As you move around the western shore of Lake Como – the area around Tremezzo and Menaggio, as far north as Domaso, and into the mountains around the Swiss border – you’ll spot a series of roadside panels marked La Fine della Guerra, giving details of buildings or places that were the scene of notable events during the last years of World War II. This is a publicly funded project to highlight the civil and military resistance network that spread across northern Italy during the Repubblica Sociale Italiana (1943–45), a Nazi puppet state under the Fascist dictator Mussolini that was headquartered at Salò on Lake Garda.
