An island in the Lac de Vassivière, accessible by causeway, provides a wonderful home for the Centre International d’Art et du Paysage, a contemporary art centre where many of the pieces lie scattered among the trees. There’s also a hall hosting temporary exhibitions, and a number of works dotted among the trees. You can head over to the island without having to visit the art centre, which is well worth it for the lakeside views and tranquil pathways, and there are a number of spots that are perfect for paddling.
