Chapter 6

MATTY’S body trembled as he showered. How in the hell had he gotten so drunk the night before that he’d had sex and not even remembered it?

Matty was definitely no virgin, but he was picky. Okay, so he had sucked a lot of dick when he was younger, but he at least knew every guy he had gone all the way with, and knew them well.

He racked his brain trying to remember the previous night’s events. Surely, he didn’t bring a stranger back to the ranch. Was it one of the cowboys then? Was it Baxter?

How screwed up was that? He finally had Baxter in his bed, and he couldn’t even remember it.

No, Baxter might be an ass sometimes, but he did not seem like the kind of man who would take advantage of Matty when he was vulnerable. Hell, it seemed like the only time he got a glimpse of the “real” Baxter beneath the gruff cowboy exterior was when Matty was vulnerable.

After rinsing the soap off, Matty got out of the shower and got dressed.

Figuring his cousin might remember what happened last night, he knocked on Brian’s bedroom door.

“Come in,” his cousin croaked through the door.

Matty pushed open Brian’s door and shut it behind him.

Brian was sitting up on his bed, rubbing his eyes. “Hey, cuz,” he said with a yawn, stretching his arms above his head. He looked like hell warmed over. Apparently, Brian had had a little too much last night as well.

“You okay?” Matty asked, concerned.

“I’m alright.” He looked Matty up and down, then frowned. “Are you okay?”

Matty remained against the door. He took a deep breath and held it. “What happened last night?”

Brian grimaced and twisted his neck until it popped. “What do you mean?”

“Um…. Did I go home with someone last night?”

Brian’s frown deepened. “What? No. Dude. You were totally trashed. I poured you into bed myself.”

“No one was with you? Baxter maybe?”

“Baxter? Why would he have been here? He left the bar early with his girl.”

Matty had forgotten that. The reminder of Baxter leaving with her hit him hard, and he wanted to cry. “Oh, right.”

“What’s going on?”

Matty looked away from Brian when he whispered, “I had sex last night.”

“With who?”

“I don’t know. I found the condom this morning. And I’m a little sore….” Matty rubbed the back of his neck and let out a nervous snort of laughter, though it wasn’t funny. Not at all. “I guess I should lay off the booze for a bit….”
