“Oh dear,” he said sympathetically, scampering down the tree trunk. “It can’t be as bad as you think it is. Now, dry those eyes,” he went on, using his fluffy gray tail to wipe away Peggy’s tears, “and tell Andy what’s wrong.”

“I’m lost,” wailed Peggy. “I was trying to find Chloe’s school, but I went the wrong way.”

“What’s a school?” asked the squirrel.

“It’s where lots of children go to learn and play,” explained Peggy.

“Oh,” said Andy. “I know where that is—in fact, I was just heading there myself. Want to come with me?”

“Yes, please,” yelped Peggy, relief flooding through her. “That would be amazing.” She scrambled to her feet and hurried after the squirrel, whose tail bobbed ahead of her.

“Hey!” she panted, as something occurred to her. “I thought squirrels were supposed to be scared of dogs.”

“I saw you run away from that big dog,” Andy said, and chuckled, his whiskers twitching. “You’re about as scary as a butterfly.”

The squirrel scampered through a set of big iron gates. He headed across the grass to a cluster of trees and scratched his head with his paw. “I know I buried some acorns around here a few months ago. Now, where was it…?”

Peggy gazed around her, confused. “Um…”

“Oh, sorry,” said Andy. “I nearly forgot. The school’s over there,” he said, pointing with one of his paws, before bounding off in search of his nuts.

Peggy hurried off in the direction Andy had pointed. Soon, she heard the excited shrieks of children playing. But when she got there, her heart sank. There were lots of children swinging on swings, spinning on a merry-go-round, and dangling from monkey bars. But this wasn’t a school—it was a playground. Andy had taken her to the park!

“Doggie!” cried a little girl, spotting Peggy from the top of the slide. She whooshed down and then ran out of the playground to give Peggy a cuddle.

Soon, a cluster of toddlers had gathered around Peggy.

“She’s so cute,” said a little boy, feeding Peggy one of his rice cakes.
