Exercise 1. Start a seed file of texts and ideas for children's sermons. Anything that children need to know about God is in the Bible. The pastor's challenge is learning to communicate God's Word to the little ones.

Exercise 2. Consider the dramatic monologue for at least one children's sermon. Most pastors will never in their career attempt a dramatic monologue at all. That's OK, but the children's sermon is a great way to try one on for size. It need not be a full costume drama with stage setting. Just put on a turban and pretend to be a Bible character telling your story in first-person testimony style.

Exercise 3. Think of a recent one-on-one counseling encounter you had with a troubled child. It may have been one of your own or one in a church setting. How might you have been more helpful with a therapeutic story?
