4. Players’ Equipment

Appropriate footwear for this age group means sneakers or soft-cleated soccer boots. Shin guards are mandatory for practices as well as games. No player is allowed to take part in practice or a match wearing a cast or splint.

5. Referees

The referee should be either a registered referee or a youth referee and should always emphasize safety, fairness, fun, and learning. AYSO referees are encouraged to explain any infringements to the player or players and assist in familiarizing players with the game.

The decision of the referee is final and must not be questioned by coaches. A referee may only change his decision on realizing that it is incorrect or, at his discretion, on the advice of an assistant referee, provided that he has not already restarted play.
