How should we judge those two worlds? Do we have good reason to believe that one must be morally better than the other? How could we tell? Of course, if diversity, cultures, differences are to be valued – over the homogenous – as some of us believe, then the first world is much to be preferred. Regarding that world, it is, though, very difficult to believe that inhabitants would not in fact value some cultures more than others; once that arises, we have the beginnings of disrespects, of envy, of offence – leading to conflict. If we have differences, can such attitudes and evaluations be avoided? Ought they to be avoided? As Nietzsche commented in Beyond Good and Evil (1886):

Isn’t living assessing, preferring, being unfair, being limited, wanting to be different?
