THE CONVERSATION with his mother confused Jonah. He was relieved to have told her, but he’d expected her to force him to give her Antony and Justin’s names. Charged up for a fight like a wrestler on WWE Smackdown, he’d not expected a choice. He’d been ready to lose. Now he’d have to find another way.

After Thanksgiving, lounging on his bed trying to decide what to do with his vacation day, he texted Billy.

Jonah Winfield: I guess

Billy Preston: She flip out

Jonah Winfield: No

Jonah Winfield: Why am I still mad
