§ 7. Nation of Dragon Cry

The next day.

The first year students of Demon King Academy class two had gathered at the Ledenor Plain to the east of Midhaze. Thanks to the Edonica combat training that had continued right up until dawn, they had each grown in astounding ways unique to their own individual needs and differences. Being forced to overcome death so many times had completely worn them out both mentally and physically, making some look a little worse for wear, but that was to be expected. If anything, with their training still fresh on their minds, now was the perfect time to set off. After all, there was no telling what would happen in the underground world.

“All right. It’s time to head underground.”

“Um, Lord Anos...” Naya said, raising her hand.

“What’s wrong?”

“Anosh isn’t here today. Is he okay?” she asked curiously.

“Huh, she’s right,” someone murmured.

“Come to think of it, did anyone see him during training?”

“I sure didn’t, but I was kind of occupied with my Edonica.”

The students continued murmuring to each other noisily. I could just say Anosh was absent, but admitting that he was absent only during Demon King training could potentially arouse suspicion. On the other hand, having to control a separate body would be quite the annoyance. I would have to do so in a pretty convincing manner to avoid detection. And so...

“Ha ha, what are you saying? Anosh has been here the whole time,” I said, looking into empty space.

“Huh?”

“Is Anosh over there?”

“He is.” I walked over to the empty space and spoke to it. “Lynel and Najira, is it? You must think you’re quite the prankster to try to hide from me, but you have yet to reach the depths of the abyss. This class will be a good opportunity to change that. Stay hidden this entire trip. I’ll give you a passing grade if you can evade my Eyes even once.”

The students stared in the direction I was looking.

“Man, I can’t see anything at all. There isn’t even a hint of magic there.”

“Anosh really is a child genius.”

“But even Anosh is nothing more than a kid to the Demon King. He’s hidden himself so well, yet Lord Anos saw right through him.”

That should do it for the Anosh problem.

“Now, let’s be off,” I said. Arcana, who had been waiting behind me, quietly stepped forward. “I should have introduced her earlier, but this is Arcana. She’s from the underground world, but she isn’t a draconid. To put it simply, she’s a god, and she’ll be the one to show us the way to Jiordal.”

Arcana vanished then reappeared several hundred meters away from the students.

“What was that just now? Gatom?”

“It couldn’t be. I didn’t see a magic circle.”

“More importantly, did he say ‘god’? As in, she’s an actual god?”

“I don’t want to believe it, but since it’s Lord Anos claiming it, not Mr. Eldmed, it must be true. I mean, she did change day to night earlier just by holding up her hand.”

“What was that anyway? That was some crazy magic.
