CHANGES IN ESTABLISHED PATTERNS
Thought flow through a particular path does not basically change that path but tends rather to reinforce it. How then do the established patterns, the established pathways, the d-line diagrams, ever become changed?
The established patterns represent the natural development of a pattern. They come about through the self-organization of information as it comes in. The chance nature of the encounter with certain types of situation, the chance sequence in which the pieces of information are collected, all affect the development of the established pattern. For this reason the natural pattern may not be the best one. That is where learning and education come in – as attempts to change the natural pattern into a better one. By what processes are the natural patterns altered?
