Different Learning Styles
You must have already read about the articles explaining about everyone having a different preference of learning something new. It is said that some people learn by reading the material, but some like to learn by watching it. Then some people say that they are more of a listener, while few others would say that they learn by better by practically doing it by their hands.
The proponents of different learning-style theory have different version of learning styles. Most people say there are three styles, namely auditory, visual, and physical. There are some others that say there are more. Even there is no consensus in the number of such methods. But it is more often referred that there are seven different learning styles. Some people may find one style as their dominant style of learning with far less use of other styles. Some people use mixed styles for learning. There is no right or wrong style, and also no one has a fixed learning style for life that can’t be changed.
But why is this idea of different learning styles so popular in the first place?
It is because parents tend to think that their children are being taught an education specific to their kid’s learning style. Similarly, teachers also start to believe that they are more sensible towards the needs of the children to help them learn in the best possible way, as most suitable to them.
Now there are different schools of thoughts about the efficacy of different styles in the process of learning. We will come to that, but before that let’s have a quick look at these various styles and what does it mean to learn by a specific style.
