Chapter 23

Day 177-Floor 2, the talk-Amber

Marcus helps each of us sit down, leaving a small kiss on our lips. Although I’m not exhausted, I can tell Cassandra and Brial are feeling the last fight. Thankfully, their stats will be going up, and we will be able to fight for longer periods of time.

“Okay, let’s talk.” Marcus starts before looking at Brial, and Cassandra. “What do you two think about your new leg guards?”

Brial runs her hands down her new leather guards and smiles at Marcus. “They are nice. They give us decent stat boosts, and they are enchanted. Now we have two parts of the guard set.”

Cassandra nods in agreement. “They are comfortable, as if they were made just for us. I’m still curious how we got them in Void’s realm.”

Marcus taps his chin while thinking it over. “I’m guessing the gods are using some of their influence to help us. I wonder how much it’s taxing them?”

Tallia shrugs before wrapping her tail around his back. “I don’t know. What I do know is that I’m thankful. This labyrinth might be the hardest thing we’ve ever done.” Leaning into him, she takes comfort in his touch as he runs his hand through her hair.

I scoot closer so he’ll give me attention too, which causes the other girls to scoot closer as well. Marcus notices of course and smiles before focusing on Cassandra. “We have a few minutes before we need to leave. Why don’t you and Brial tell us a little about yourselves?”

Cassandra leans in and kisses him before looking us over. “I’ll go first. As you know I served as a guard to his Majesty before serving Marcus. Before that I was happy living with my parents. They made sure I was educated, and my father made sure I knew how to fight. Not as well as Mavis, mind you, but I could hold my own. When I turned eighteen, I was given the monk job, and everything changed. I started going on adventures and leveling up. One day I was at the adventurer’s hall, looking for a group, and a guard joined me.

We started talking, and after working together a few times, he invited me to talk with Commander Harrison. After that, I was recruited and started my life as a guard. My parents were so excited, although I haven’t been able to see them as much as I have wanted.”

As she finishes up, I start to feel sad. “Why didn’t you tell us that your parents were still alive? We could have visited them and given them the good news that you are getting married.”

Cassandra shrugs. “It’s been one thing after another since I joined Marcus’s city. I just haven’t had the time that I’ve wanted to go see them.”

Marcus leans forward and lightly smacks her head. “What are we going to do with you? Do you think it’s not important to me, or us, to let you visit your family? We will go after we get back and invite them to the wedding.
