Alex: Hey there. Read through your profile and it says you teach English. Do you have a favorite book?

I considered what I wanted to say for a few moments before quickly firing off a response. I didn’t want to overthink it.

Charlotte: Hey! Do I have to pick one? I’m not sure I could, to be honest.

A few minutes later, I had a response.

Alex: I guess I can let it slide this time. Maybe give me top five?

Charlotte: Whew, that’s still hard. Let’s see… Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter (yes, all of them), Chronicles of Narnia, Twelfth Night, and The Catcher in the Rye. You?

Alex: Impressive list there, Ms. English Teacher. Do you teach those? To be honest, the only reading I normally do is Sports Illustrated.

Charlotte: *eye roll emoji* You sound like my brother. You read it for the articles, right?

Alex: LOL. I think you’re thinking of a different publication, but sure. Do you enjoy your job?

Charlotte: I do. I look forward to work every day. What is it you do?

Alex: I play baseball.

Charlotte: Professionally?

Alex: Yeah. I’m on a farm team.

Charlotte: Here is where I should play dumb and ask what a farm team is, but I don’t roll like that. My brother is also a player, so I’m pretty hip with the lingo.

Alex: That’s pretty cool. Most girls just want to know if I can introduce them to the other players and if I’m on a Major League team. Kinda nice to “meet” someone who knows what I’m talking about.

Alex: Besides teaching, do you do anything else? Hobbies?
