Chapter 10

The castaways stared at each other, unsure how to proceed. They stood above the pit. “Muusst gooo,” said the Moth Man. “Go down Hummanns, go!” The castaways looked at the growing hole in the wall where the claw was scraping. They hurried into the pit. Max was last to go. “Hurryy, beffoore itss in!”

Max turned and looked at the Moth Man, “I want to know who the natives are? Why are they attacking us?”

“Yooou knowww alreeeadyy. Reeead bookkk.”

“Do you mean your journal?” Max replied.

“Nooooo, yooourr booook. Hummmm.” Max began to climb down the hole into the darkness. He wondered whether the Moth Man that was once Dr. Ethan White meant what he thought it did. Max realized that had to be the answer. The natives were the Atlanteans.

Back at the camp on the beach, Max had left the manuscript for his novel. In his book, he had given the reasons Atlantis could be real and wrote what it could have been like to live in Atlantis. He listed several locations that Atlantis may have been. Max wondered whether Atlanteans had survived after their island sank. Maybe they came to this very island. He thought back to Dr. White’s journal. It had mentioned crystals. Some legends said that the Atlanteans had energy crystals. There was only one way to find out the truth.

The castaways followed the tunnel with the Moth Man pushing them on. Around a slight bend, they saw a light. “Gooooo Hummmanns,” ordered the Moth Man. They were almost out.

“I think we should head back to the camp!” yelled Max.

The cave people dragged Phillip down the path by his legs. They were leading him down the bridge, into a huge lava rock castle. He looked up and saw the gates to the castle opening. Inside, he could see only darkness. They dragged him into the darkness and for a few minutes, he could see nothing. Then, he was blinded as a bright light entered the hallway. He was dragged a few more feet before his captors stopped. His eyes slowly adjusted to the strange light and he saw he was in a large room. He heard a deep voice straight ahead of him. “So you are the one who has invaded my land!” Phillip looked up to see who had spoken.
