BACKYARD SEX SLAVE
The most notorious case of sexual slavery in America was the kidnap and imprisonment of Jaycee Lee Dugard when, on 26 August 2009, it was discovered that she had been held, along with her two daughters, in the backyard of a house in California for over eighteen years.
Eleven-year-old Jaycee Lee Dugard had been abducted on 10 June 1991 on her way to catch the school bus from her home in South Lake Tahoe. Her stepfather Carl Probyn was watching as she walked up Washoan Boulevard. He noticed a grey sedan with a couple in it drive by. Suddenly, it did a U-turn. On the way, the driver rolled down his window as if to ask the girl for directions, then he leaned out of the door and grabbed her. Jaycee screamed and tried to get away. There was a cracking sound. Paralyzed by a stun gun, she was dragged into the back of the car ⦠a blanket was thrown over her ⦠someone sat on her and the car took off.
Seeing his stepdaughter being abducted in broad daylight, Probyn jumped on his bike and cycled after the car. But there was no way he could keep up or even get the licence number. Returning home, he called the police. He gave them a description of the car and the couple in it, but they were long gone.
Some way out of town, the car stopped. The woman who had been sitting on top of Jaycee moved into the front of the car. The man with her was laughing. He said he could not believe that they had got away with it. Jaycee was terrified.
When the car stopped again, Jaycee was bundled into a house under a blanket. She was told to keep quiet, otherwise she would be attacked by what sounded like some very aggressive dogs. In the bathroom, the man made her take her clothes off. He stripped off as well and made her touch him. In the shower, he shaved what little hair she had around her pudendum and in her armpits, while she cried. Wrapped a blanket, she was taken out into the back garden and found herself in a small room with egg crates for a bed. She was left there handcuffed to cry herself to sleep.
Within hours of Jayceeâs abduction, the media descended on South Lake Tahoe. Dozens of volunteers searched the area. Tens of thousands of flyers and posters were handed out across the United States. At one stage, Carl Probyn was considered a suspect, but eventually he was ruled out. His marriage to Jayceeâs mother Terry fell apart.
On the morning following the abduction, the man arrived with something to eat and drink, and a bucket Jaycee could use as a lavatory. Each time her abductor came to see her, he tried to win her over. She resisted. After about a week, he gave up. Soon after, he fastened the handcuffs behind her back, then he raped her.
Afterwards, she was bleeding. She was brought a washcloth and bucket of warm water to wash herself.
