The four cornerstones I’ve highlighted in this chapter are where I urge you to start if you’re new in your job. For those tenured in your positions, these cornerstones can also be used as a quick benchmark. Focusing on the cornerstones of documentation, governance, security architecture, and communications will set you up for success and allow you to build the security function your company wants from you. The walls of information security surround the entire organization. Implementing the four cornerstones will require lots of hustle to complete, but hopefully you enjoy building a program as opposed to just maintaining one.
