Chapter 5
Davyd had waited as long as he could before reporting the Intel that he had received from the street. It had come in early that morning via a phone call from the club manager of one of their low-end clubs in Leicester Square, which was why he was not there when Emma had arrived.
However, as soon as they arrived back at the estate from the news conference, Davyd knew that the pressing business was no longer about stocks and shareholders, but also about drugs and Irishmen.
Quietly, he followed Dmitry and Emma into the house before Dmitry could excuse himself to change clothes but after Ivan and Arie had walked away, he tapped Dmitry on the shoulder.
“I need to talk to you, boy,” he said, under his breath. His eyes were serious.
Dmitry looked down at Davyd and instantly knew his day was about to get worse. “I’ll meet you in the study,” was all that he said before he turned to Emma. “Can I get you anything?” he asked, kindly.
A smile crossed her lips. She had never known this Dmitry before. It was quite refreshing and alluring to have him be so gentle. “I’m fine, thank you. I’m just going to retire for a while. I could use some down time.” Her gaze lingered on him in his tailored suit and perfectly polished features. He cleaned up well…to well to go unnoticed.
“Understandable,” he said, rubbing her shoulders. Without him knowing it, goose bumps formed on her skin. “I’ve got some things to handle, so we can catch up later.”
“I’d like that,” she said, nodding toward Davyd. “It’s a pleasure to see you again.”
“The same here, ma’am,” Davyd said, going out of his way to smile back.
“Do you need an escort?” Dmitry asked her.
The question made her giggle. “I know my way around, silly.”
Dmitry winked at her. “My home is yours.”
“Literally,” she said playfully.
His smile quickly disappeared as he turned from her and headed toward his study behind Davyd. There was no telling what he was about to hear. It was completely unlike Davyd to be gone so early in the morning, which meant only two things – either he left to see one of his lady friends or to fix a problem.
Nine times out of ten, it was to fix a problem.
Two of his men followed behind them to stand guard at the door while they talked. Another rule Dmitry had implemented since Elsa.
As soon as the door closed, Davyd walked over to the bar and poured them both a glass of scotch. “You’re flirting with that woman,” he said in a matter-of-fact tone.
Dmitry sat down in his chair behind his desk and folded his hands behind his head. Based upon the tone of the observation, he guessed that Davyd had an opinion on it. “I am,” he said in a rather arrogant tone.
Davyd shrugged. “At least you’re honest.”
Dmitry allowed a moment of transparency. “What harm can come from it? Her mother is dead.”
“I don’t know why you boys don’t see that you’re in no place for a relationship.
