Income from Surface and Subsurface Leasing

Tribes and individual Indians receive income from surface and subsurface leasing as indicated in Table 4.2. The reservations and tribes that receive between $500,000 and $1,000,000 in surface lease income are Winnebago (Nebraska), Ft. Berthold (North Dakota), Pine Ridge (South Dakota), Otoe and Ponca (Oklahoma). Reservations and tribes receiving over $1,000,000 in surface lease income are Kiowa, Comanche and Apache ($4,101,923), Wichita-Caddo-Delaware, and Cheyenne Arapaho (Oklahoma); Blackfeet, Crow, and Ft. Peck (Montana); Colorado River ($3,633,284), Ak-chin (Maricopa), and Salt River (Arizona); Ft. Hall, Coeur d'Alene, and Nez Perce (Idaho); Umatilla (Oregon); and Yakima (Washington).

Reservations and tribes with an oil and gas lease and royalty income of over $1,000,000 are Ft. Berthold, North Dakota ($1,308,000); Southern Ute, Colorado ($2,310,000); Ute Mountain, New Mexico and Colorado ($1,277,000); Kiowa, Comanche, Apache, and Fort Sill Apache, Oklahoma
