Push rod steering systems have pivot bearings that need to be checked for security and lubricated at least annually.

The cable in cable steering systems must be checked regularly. Lubrication may be required. Check the manufacturer’s instructions.

Anchor windlasses

The bigger the boat or the less physically able the crew, the more need there is for an anchor windlass. An adequate anchor, together with its chain, requires quite a lot of effort to haul in, so if you do much anchoring, a manual or electric windlass may be a necessity on your boat.
